Spring in Sydney: 5 Ways to Get Out, Explore and Connect
Updated: Sep 3
Spring is arriving in Sydney, bringing longer days, warmer weather and plenty of reasons to get out of the house. Whether you enjoy walking, art, markets, gardens or simply spending time outdoors with other people, the new season is a great opportunity to try something different.
Here are a few ideas to add to your spring calendar:
1. See the Royal Botanic Garden in bloom
Welcome spring with a walk through the Royal Botanic Garden Sydney.
From mid-August to early October, the Garden’s Spring Walk comes alive with wisteria, rhododendrons and colourful seasonal plantings.
Take your time, bring a friend and enjoy one of Sydney’s most beautiful green spaces, just a short walk from the harbour.

2. Experience Sydney Fringe
Spring is also a great time to explore Sydney’s cultural side.
The Sydney Fringe Festival 2026 begins on 2 September and runs into October, with theatre, comedy, music, cabaret, dance and other performances taking place across the city.
You don’t have to be a regular theatre-goer.
Choose something that sounds interesting, invite a friend and use it as an excuse to explore a different part of Sydney.
3. Spend a morning closer to home
You don’t need to cross the city to make the most of spring.
Around North Sydney, September brings local markets, workshops and activities. Northside Produce Market is scheduled for 5 September, while The Coal Loader Artisans Market returns on 6 September. The Coal Loader also offers free heritage tours, including one on 5 September.
A local market, coffee and a walk can be an easy way to turn an ordinary morning into something more social.

4. Get outside and explore the harbour
Spring weather makes it easier to spend more time outdoors.
Try a harbour walk, explore a local park or choose a section of Sydney’s foreshore you haven’t visited before. You don’t need to make it a long or challenging walk—even a short outing can be an opportunity to move, enjoy some fresh air and catch up with someone.
Later in spring, keep an eye out for Sydney’s famous jacarandas. They generally bloom during October and November, with Kirribilli being one of Sydney’s best-known places to see them.

5. Connect with your local community
At Neutral Bay Community Centre, you can explore activities ranging from yoga and movement classes to art, games and social groups — with plenty of opportunities to stay active, learn something new and connect with others close to home.
This spring, choose one thing that gets you out, moving or connecting. You might discover a new favourite way to spend your week.
